Block 1 - Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt Results
Block One from Laundry Basket Quilts’ Mystery Quilt was an adventure to say the least. You’d think a simple four patch wouldn’t cause one a lot of trouble, but…let’s say that it was good this block was simple.
These blocks are only 4 1/2 inches (unfinished) and that was a part of why I wanted to do this particular Mystery Quilt; more practice with small pieces and by default, getting to work on my accuracy.
I referred back to my color chart and here’s my first color pull (yes, I said 1st):
Since I am using fat quarters and I have my Deb Tucker Trimmers, I cut my pieces at 2 5/8 inches so I could trim down. It wasn’t always exact as I got “close enough” because since I was trimming down, I didn’t straighten the edge of my fat quarter first. Well, I was safe - except for my one blue strip.
So, I had a decision to make - do I recut the same color or pick a new one and use these for another block as I know (because yes, I’m doing this late) there are some smaller blocks I can repurpose these for. I decided to save these and picked a new blue and light to go with it. I’ll admit it, I was feeling lazy too and didn’t want to rip out that day.
I did my piecing a bit different than Editya as I sewed a light and dark strip together and then trimmed down to the size I needed. Then, I squared up using the Four-Patch Square Up tool. I really liked using this tool as it has a center circle to align the middle as well as lines to align your seams to making the squared up block look nearly perfect.
I’m already starting to see, and love, the scrappiness of how this quilt is going to finish. Stay tuned for the next block!
