February Oh Hello Done Goal

Can you believe we are already half-way through January? If how fast this month is going, I’ll blink and 2021 will be here.

Maybe it feels fast because my son has his middle school tour this month. I’m still in denial he’s 10 and a 5th grader (our middle school starts with 6th grade). I’m not ready to transition to a middle school mom…even if he’s ready to be a middle schooler.

But, you’re not here to listen to me lament about the kiddo getting older, you’re here for February’s goal! So, without further ado -

February Oh Hello Done Goal

This month, the goal is to use a precut from your stash. So, what counts as a precut?

Get out your mini charms, your charm packs, the layer cakes, the fat eighths, and fat quarters - yes, I’m considering the “fats” as precut (so versatile). I want you to get in your stash and get it used. So, I don’t want to limit you to what you chose.

So, I’ve picked a fat quarter pack I ordered this summer (I think) from fabricbubb called sweater weather. It’s been on my mind for some time in getting it used. I’m in love with the pink, orange, and purple and how they blend.

Sweater Weather

I think I’ve settled on making a simple log cabin with these colors. I found a block that uses seven colors to make the block. That will let me divide this into a purple and orange group with seven colors in each grouping. I can also cut each quarter into 2 1/2 inch strips and still have some room to play. And confession, I have yet to make a log cabin block - let alone quilt. So, for now, that’s my plan for next month.

While we are on confessions, while NOT a BOM…I did sign-up for a Quilter’s Candy Membership that gives a block and tutorials every month. NOT a formal BOM - it isn’t. I think the latest membership window has closed, but check it out if you’re interested and get in on the next one. So, this past weekend, I pulled out some scraps and fat quarters and got to work making the January block, Clementine.

Clementine Block

You’ll see at the top, I cut my fat quarter the wrong direction and had to sew two pieces together to get the strip the right length. This was good practice for me again on that 1/4 inch seam, snowballing corners, and nesting seams.

This block is going to be 18 inch finished. It would be really easy (and was recommended by the pattern maker) to add other blocks 3x3 to make a cute square quilt! I’m going back and forth on either a little wall hanging or pillow.

What do you think? Leave me a vote in the comments! If you follow me on Instagram, I’ll post a vote in my story.

How has January been treating you in your quilting adventures?

Happy Quilting and I hope you’re starting to say “Hello Done!” to your goals.
