October 2022 - Clara Color Palette

The other day, when I took our pugs out for their morning potty break, it was a mood outside.

The weather was finally crisp, the sun was rising, a little fog in the air, and crows were cawing as they flew across the sky.

I’m not typically a fall girl, but that morning, I was.

That week, my son and I went on a quick run to Barnes and Noble to pick up the next book in the series he’s reading. While he was perusing, an end cap full of witchy reads caught my eye.

While a few books on that end cap caught my eye, that fateful morning, I immediately pulled out “The Nature of Witches” by Rachel Griffin for the inspiration behind this month’s color palette.

I’ve picked up this book many times to purchase, but 2022 was finally the year it came home with me. This book is the story of Clara, an “Everwitch” that has powers/can control the climate of all the seasons. Everwitches are rare and in this book, the witches are losing control on the environment. So, not only is this book the inspiration for this month’s color palette, it’s also my read for the month of October. So, in November, I’ll share what I thought of the book.

But without further ado, this month’s color palette, Clara - named after the main character:

When I got done with this palette I immediately wanted to make a block and buy a sweater in everyone of these colors. And, it made fall a little more dear to my heart. Still a summer girl, but there’s a bit more room for fall in there.

I immediately pulled my Paintbrush Studio Solids and got to work. The closest matches were (from top to bottom, or grey to blue:

  • 101 - Azure

  • 039 - Jade

  • 169 - Canyon

  • 212 - Raisin

  • 050 - Cadet

The colors, even in software form, have translated into a stunning block. I’ve been playing a bit with these blocks in my quilting software…think I may put a freebie for you all if you’d like to turn these into a pillow or a quilt.

And in typical Jenny fashion I want a quilt out of this - a quilt now!

As a quick reminder, I am not sponsored by Paintbrush Studios, they are the solid I like best. Plus, they are a local to me company and I love to support my local quilt stores.

Let me know what you think in the comments and don’t forget those book recommendations!
