Quarter One - Block Party Review

Well, I wish I could stay true to my “no more Block of the Months” resolutions, but I have a weakness.

Especially when they have cute material.

I must have sucker on my head for these things.

Well, this time, I have one from a local quilt shop AND it’s teaching me some good foundational units and blocks.

Prairie Point Quilt & Fabric Store starts their Block Party in September which I liked so you aren’t wrapping up at the busiest time of the year. They offer more than one color way for you and a discount if you bring in your previous month’s finished block when getting your new one. BONUS! It operates as a mystery quilt, so I don’t have a final layout yet.

I’ll post these updates quarterly; that way I can save up my thoughts and learnings for one versus repeating info.

I joined in with the October block because I saw the material for the November block and loved it. So, I put together September and October’s at the same time. This color way is darker than I usually go for, but I’m learning about dark/medium/background/accent colors and am appreciating how scrappy this is already looking!

I few things I appreciate about this is that Prairie Points have set up the blocks so you can trim down and square. So, I’m also getting to work on my quarter inch seam allowance accuracy. My Tucker Trimmers are getting some good use out of them. These first blocks are only squares/four-patches, half-square triangles, and flying geese. I love how with three basic elements, you can simply do some rearranging and you get three different looking blocks.

I am also enjoying how even though these are only using one material line, overall, it is looking very scrappy!
