queen of the ravens

it’s hard to believe it is wednesday and that i’m officially done with school! last weekend, not only did i learn a new quilt style, but i finished up a quilt as well - say hello to “queen of the ravens.”

i picked up this panel last year at sarah’s in lawrence, ks - there were two left on the bolt, so i bought both and gave one to my mom (who’s also “modeling” my quilt - say “hi, mom!”). i can’t wait to see what she does with hers.

the blocks drew me as they were vintage, quirky, and had some word play with a bible verse (zoom in on the bottom right and top left pieces).

for mine, i wanted to highlight some of the non-traditional halloween colors that were in the blocks - so i picked up teal for the first round framing and then an ombre pink for the binding. the border is a subtle black with a bit of pattern.

i’m normally a huge halloween fan, but none of the themed material was working for what i envisioned for the background. so, i found this great batik that fit with the overall vintage vibe.

the queen then went to prairie flower crafts for quilting! we went with a spiderweb quilting.

i was a bit worried the pink binding wouldn’t like right against the batik, but it is gorgeous! my son doesn’t want me to get rid of this one! but this one will more than likely go up for sale.

i hope you’ve enjoyed the walkthrough of my queen of ravens quilt -

“come, follow me into the web i spin. i can guide you on your way. i, your raven, will whisper in your ear. and all that I tell you in darkness, you will speak into light.”
