summer sampler week two
so, let’s be honest, shall we. until school was over, i hadn’t touched my sewing machine since winter break/early january.
i’ve missed sewing - so this week, that’s been my focus. xman has been with his dad and i’ve been in major need of me time. and by me time, i mean quilting - and nothing BUT quilting.
one thing i worked on (i also signed up for a monthly half square triangle block-of-the-month - don’t ask!) was my week two block for the summer sampler.
this block is called pixelations - and it used paper piecing to get perfect half square triangles (or HSTs as I have learned).
and i am in love with this block and method - so much that yeah, i joined another block-of- the-month AND bought the templates from freshly pieced. between these templates and my perfectly slotted trimmers, i’m in good shape for HST.
here was my fabric pull for this block - i was a bit worried on how the squirrels would play out, but i went with it since it was the material called for.
there was a provided template that used paper piecing to make perfect HSTs. peeling the paper off is so satisfying (especially when monitoring the weather because you have tornado warnings all around you). here are some highlights from making my block.
as you can see - my orange/tula material worked out just fine in the squares. laying this block out was a must! then i took my time sewing and sewed it all together over two nights.
and this is my final product!
i am in love with this block! and, i feel I can say “i’m a quilter” now - this was a very fulfilling block to make.
