August Wrap-Up - A Year of Stash & Scraps
Well, August was not my month for staying true to my plan. I’d like to say I’m not to blame, my quilt guild is, but I need to take accountability for my actions.
First, Anna Maria Horner was a speaker at guild and well, she had her fabric for sale and I of course, LOVE her fabric. I volunteered to help show her quilts and I may have died a little inside; it was so special to me.
Then, the mini shop hop that was hosted by my quilt guild (Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild) got me in trouble. In August we had a raffle drawing and to thank the sponsors, there was a shop hop to the vendor’s stores. My quilting buddy and I loaded up and hit four of them - two we had never been to and two we had.
The Sew Enchanting Equine and Plain Jane’s were new to us stores. The Fabric Chic and Sarah’s we have visited too many times to count.
It was a great day spent with a quilting bestie and of course, I didn’t get many pictures. I did get one of this cute, striped Robert Kaufman woven from Sarah’s and I did pull some white woven from my stash and started making half square triangles as the fabric was calling (well, almost yelling) at me to use it! I have not sewn much with woven fabric so I decided to keep it simple with what I was doing. I’m starching everything!
We will see what comes out of it - who knows…maybe another pattern!
Speaking of which - today was a big day. I have officially registered Oh, Hello Jenny as a business and the administrative stuff is out of the way! I am full throttle on finishing up my pattern and the goal is to release by the end of the year. I’m so glad this is done…that is, until I have to pay taxes.
I finally bound the quilt and gifted it to my boyfriend’s son and wife for their wedding/housewarming gift. I love gifting quilts! I had started this one in 2018 and had meant it for my bed. However, the color palette is not one my boyfriend particularly enjoys. So, I showed some of the fabric to his son to see if he/his wife would like it and he said yes. So, let’s just say I didn’t procrastinate on making that quilt - it just knew it wasn’t the right time to be made.
Wrapping this quilt up left me with some fabulous green scraps that I want to use for Jen Kingwell’s “This Way Not That” quilt from her “Quilt Recipes” book (please go to your local quilt store to buy; I only use Amazon for a quick reference). I think I can get all the squares I need from it - just need to find another solid color and then I can figure out what to do about the scrappy accent pieces!
Labor Day weekend I spent in my mom’s craft room - more on that in September’s wrap-up, but spoiler alert - I did use only my stash!
School has started and our schedule is starting to fall into place. My kiddo is ready for spooky season and has pulled out all his ghost face shirts.
So, here’s to September being a time to refocus on my scrap and stash use and wrapping up my first pattern!
