September Wrap-Up - A Year of Stash & Scraps
September has come and gone in a blur. School got underway for Xander, the Chiefs kicked-off a new season, and as I type, our Royals are still playing baseball.
Our hydrangea decided to bloom and I got this great shot. Our plant is interesting - it will get pink AND blue blooms. Have any of you seen this? I know the color of the blooms are based on the PH level of your soil…so how we are getting two colors is a bit beyond me. Share in the comments if you know why this is happening.
This month I again fell short on purchasing as one of my new favorite quilt stores, Plain Janes, had a major birthday sale. I won’t apologize, when you have fat quarters (my favorite) on sale for a dollar, I’m in.
We spent Labor Day weekend at my parent’s and helped them work on the new addition to their house. Well, I should say John helped. I got quality time in my mom’s sewing room.
I updated a pillow case from my youth. I reused as much as I could from the pillow case, pulled the rain drop fabric and navy polka dot from my stash. The other came from my purchase at quilt guild night with Anna Maria Horner.
Grumpy was pretty thin from wear; he is over 35 years old. Adding interfacing to him will hopefully extend his life. I’m planning on keeping this at more work desk for something to hug, have in my lap when the pugs are just done with me.
After I wrapped this up, I decided to use fabric strictly from the bag of scraps I brought. This resulted in two more pillow fronts being made.
The second pillow is all from the backing I used on John’s summer quilt. It’s a cheater fabric and I love how even with half square triangles, none of them look the same. Not too shabby getting a pillow front from left over backing!
My big win this September was more progress on my first quilt pattern. My hope is to release Herbert & Jewell in December 2024, so stay tuned! Here’s a little sneak peak from my tests with fat quarters. I cannot wait to release this to you!
I’ve been reworking the draft and finishing the last little pieces that make a quilt pattern a pattern. While it’s early in October, I’ve been working on a lot of fun things. Stay tuned!
