Block 2 - Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt Results
Week 2 - Block 2 and another block is in the books for this Mystery Quilt from Laundry Basket Quilts.
This block was a challenge - more in the size (such small blocks!) than in what we did. This week’s block I’m calling a Four Patch in a Four Patch. I’m sure I’m not the first to use this phrase, but I’m sticking with it. However, when you look at where these blocks go in the quilt, they give a cool stair-step look.
While I have the general color scheme picked out for this quilt, I really don’t plan out my material to the blocks. The rule I follow when I use a fat quarter or other pre-cut pack is I pick what looks good together, put extra to the side, and then for the next block use material I haven’t yet used. I save what I’ve use in a special pile and then reuse once everything has been at least once. I follow the same routine/repeat as I can throughout the rest of the project.
Here’s the fabric pull for this block:
I decided to use the same pattern both times just in the blue and yellow versions.
Then it was off to sew - see below for “tiny piece” reference.
I was so thankful again to have my Studio 180 Four Patch Square Up Tool as you can use it for even tiny blocks!
These tools have been so helpful in getting my completed blocks to the correct 4 1/2” unfinished size.
I am extremely pleased with the final result. I’m already getting excited to start putting these together on the design wall. Isn’t that little bird cute?
Let me know what you think in the comments - these were fun to make!
