Block 4 - Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt Results

Here we are - a third of the way through the Laundry Basket Quilt’s Mystery Quilt (2021 edition) - Block 4. These blocks were straight forward half square triangles - some in the dark blue and some in the yellow. I did get into some of the background yardage for some of the blocks.

I decided to deviate from the instructions and sew the HSTs from the full square. I did also make them a bit larger so I could trim down. I use the Quilter’s Magic Wand tool to help me with this - you sew on the lines and cut apart down the middle. This is my preferred method; I’ve tried the 1/4 inch tape, but my sewing machine tray slips I have found and I have to readjust it (and therefore the tape) fairly frequently. This method works the best for me.

Simple - precise HST were the result.

Since I had finally made it a third of the way through, I decided to pull out my design wall and lay out the pieces I’ve made to date. So far, it looks like the color plan (and chart) are turning out a beautiful quilt! I held my breath a little as I laid it out for the first time. I also don’t have a lot of the light blue in the quilt yet either…those pieces look like they’re coming towards the end. As I can’t hang my design wall in my new space, I carefully folded it back up for the next time I add pieces. What do you think?
