Catching Up - Keeping Promises
As you know, I did sign-up for ONE block-of-the-month for 2020. I picked the Paper Chain BOM so I can keep working on my paper piecing skills (and I really enjoy paper piecing!).
But, a part of that deal was that I needed to finish a current BOM I had sitting around. So…thanks to some snow and unplanned alone time, I knocked out three blocks and started on a fourth (technically, after the fourth I’m caught up on this one because December isn’t over, baby!). I contemplated waiting to blog about finishing, but - I wanted to put it out there that I AM holding up my end of the deal (I’m looking at you, Sheria!). Also, Xander (aka, X, The Kiddo, X-man) has really taken a shine to this quilt, so I want to get it to the quilter’s so he can have it at his dad’s.
So, thanks to the snow, this weekend I finished my August, September, and October blocks for the Perfect HST BOM hosted by Lee Heinrich at Freshly Pieced.
Honestly, the first…and main reason I delayed was because the August block was NOT my favorite…did not like it. However, once I got mine put together, it grew on me.
I honestly think, not to brag, it was my purple and orange tones together that made me like this more. And…having a cute fireplace set up for the photo op.
Bring on September! These next two were a bit easier/quicker to make.
Finally, I got October completed.
The November block (plan to get back to it as soon as I’m done here!), is huge - more than double the size of these. And man, if I never sew another 2 1/2 inch HST again, it’ll be too soon.
Anyway, once I got these done, I decided to put them back on the design wall and start laying out the stars based on the pattern layout…that, and I was about to FaceTime the kiddo and I wanted him to see. PS, please note, I did fix one of the stars to it’s proper alignment to those who are also doing this BOM…but I still think it looked okay.
I’ve really enjoyed making these blocks - I’ve learned a lot about alignment and my machine’s 1/4 inch seam, pressing seams open, and how hot my iron can really get! Also, there’s enough left over for some bonus projects (which you get patterns for too!). One’s a baby quilt and somebody may be getting that one gifted…you know, sometime next year.
