Quarantine Wrap-Up

Well, here we are. Another month done out of the year and summer just around the corner. Here, our stay-at-home is lifting the 11th, so it will hopefully feel more like normal soon.

With the kiddo being with his dad, I was able to focus on some sewing and have gotten a few projects done, worked on skills, and played with some new ideas.

So, I thought I’d give a little update as to what I’ve been working on During this time of the quarantine.

I’ve kept up with my Paper Chain Block of the Month. Tomorrow, May’s block will be released and I’ll get another one under my belt. I realized I hadn’t shared March’s block - take a peek below (I’ll post another group shot when I get May’s done):

I’m about to go into Week 7 of the Mini Series Sew-A-Long with Alison Glass and Giucy Giuce. Each of these blocks are just over 4 inches and paper pieced. These have been fun to work on - but they do take time, concentration and an iron NOT set to steam. Below you’ll see my block from Week 6 and the rest of the group.

I also worked on a Jelly Roll Rug. I’ve had a Tula Pink Jelly Roll lying around and I’ve been wanting to work on something for my hair salon gals for a while. When all this went down, Missouri Star Quilt Company had a sale on the batting strips for the rug. So, I used some of my Quilter’s Cash, got the pattern, and put my machine on a zigzag stitch for the first time. These are super easy and fun, but be prepared to sit and sew for a while!

I just love how it turned out and will fit in the salon perfectly! It’s a small little thank you along to go with my first cut once we are all opened back up!

My Aurifil Color Builders April Edition came in and at first I was it was brown, but then they came and these browns are gorgeous. Here’s a look at the collection so far - I haven’t had the heart to use any of them yet. Maybe after the year is done.

I also worked on my smaller piecing skills by working on my Gathering Pattern from my Quilter’s Candy Membership (ps - I believe membership is open thru the 5th of May, so head over if you’ve thought of signing up). This let me use up some of my scraps and make a wall hanging. Now, I have a reason to put up my wall hanging rod. I do need to figure out how to quilt it - leave me your thoughts in the comments if you have some suggestions!

I also decided to play with the Flag Day Block from the Quilt Block Cookbook. I’m using a new fat quarter pack Hindsight by Anna Marie for Free Spirit Fabric. Right now the plan is to keep making blocks until I run out but I’m thinking 4 blocks by 5 blocks right now…we shall see what happens!

And finally, this quarantine, I’ve started righting my first quilt pattern, Diminishing Returns! I’ve made the first test quilt and sent it off to be quilted. Now, I’m working on the first draft of the pattern and making some decisions on the design for a throw size quilt. My hope is to release this in the fall! I’m really excited and anxious. Here’s a little sneak:

What have you been able to work on during this time? Did you use up any of your stash or try a new technique? Share with me below what you’ve done!
